‘Masterminding’ with other leaders simply means getting together to share and discuss ideas. This does not even need to be in person, you can mastermind over skype a live stream or a webinar. However, there are some major benefits to meeting up in REAL LIFE, even if you’re an introvert like me.
I recently went to my first meet up at Chester, UK with other members of my organization. Here are a few things I learnt:
It’s honestly not as scary as you think
The nerves started about a week before the actual meet up event. I didn’t want to go, I wanted to back out, my brain was coming up with all the excuses from I don’t want to get the train to I’ve got period pain. But I arrived fairly early so I wasn’t confronted with a massive group of people straight away (top tip #1) and everyone was so nice!
When you’re going to meet up with people who have the same interests or goals as you, you really don’t need to worry about things like – what will I talk about? or what if we don’t ‘click’? – because your group’s purpose has brought you all together for a reason so chances are that their values align with your own and you’ll feel able to open up to them.
It’s a massive motivation boost
I wish I had taken a note pad (top tip #2), I would have been jotting away on the train home. Nonetheless, that’s exactly what I did when I got home. Whilst it was still fresh, I wrote down everything I’d learnt, tips that were shared and also how I felt about the whole experience.
One thing that I really came away with though was a massive motivation boost to take some action on my business, and get things done! However, it made getting up to go to my day job even harder the next day as all I wanted to do was stay home and work on my business!
It’s a chance to make real connections
The best thing about meeting up with other leaders though is the connection. Even introverts like to connect with people sometimes. And everyone I spoke to made me feel like I belonged, I was a part of this massive, amazing community of people who just want to help others succeed.
It made the whole ‘online business’ thing very real for me. If I had even the smallest doubt left in my mind that it was all a scam, it was completely eradicated.
I was touched by how open the group were with what they shared. People were willing to be vulnerable to a group of people they didn’t even know, and this made me feel comfortable and willing to open-up in turn.
My communication and networking skills may still need work, I spent the majority of the afternoon talking to just two people, but that’s just another way masterminds meetups can help you level up and I am absolutely going to the next one!
If you’re debating whether you should go to a meetup or not, I wholeheartedly suggest you go! What’s the worst that could happen? If it’s not for you, you can leave. But honestly give yourself a chance, you never know what you don’t know.
