Building An Online Business

13 Awesome Benefits Of Having An Online Business

You may be wondering what the benefits of having an online business actually are. When starting my own online business I found some of the benefits surprising, but they just further showed me that I’d made the right decision by taking the leap into the online world.

1) More time to yourself

When you don’t have to commute to work or even have to worry about getting up at 6 am to get washed and dressed, you find yourself with a lot more time on your hands. Yeah, you have to set aside time to work on your business, but with the freedom to plan your day as you want, you’ll be able to fit in those activities and things that make you happy. Say, 30 minutes to give yourself a manicure, or an hour sat painting, whatever you like to do!

2) No harsh deadlines

There is nothing more stressful in a job than working to someone else’s schedule. When you work for yourself you don’t need to ‘stay late’ to finish something that’s due tomorrow. You set your own working times and stop working when you feel like it.

3) Less stress and anxiety

Even if you like your day job, the working environment often stresses us out. Whether it’s the workload, a boss or colleague you don’t get on with or the horrendous traffic on your daily commute. Get rid of these things and you’ll be feeling calmer in no time. My resting heart rate dropped by 7bpm on average when I started working for myself, I’m now happier and healthier.

4) You’re able to learn new skills

If you love a challenge and love learning new things, then an online business will be perfect for you. Growing and scaling a business comes with its own challenges and you will probably have to learn some new skills along the way. But it’s all part of the fun and at the end of the day, it can make you feel like you’ve really achieved something.

5) Work on things that excite you

Is your job boring? Have you imagined getting another job but the thought of working somewhere else still doesn’t light you up?

When you have an online business, you have the freedom to work on whatever you want. If you have a passion for photography? great! You can build a business around that. Love arts and craft? Perfect! Your business will be thriving. Feel your best when helping others? Wonderful! An online coaching business could be the best thing you ever did.

And when you’re excited about what you’re working on it makes jumping out of bed in the morning that much easier!

6) Improved mindset

Another surprising benefit of starting an online business for me, was my mindset changed. I became more resilient and have been able to tackle challenges that previously would have overwhelmed me.

If you want to succeed in the online business world you first need to develop the right mindset. You need to think like an entrepreneur. What do people need? How can you help them? and how can you give value to people?

Developing a can-do, positive attitude is what will get you through instead of throwing in the towel.

7) Not tied down by a brick-and-mortar business

If there is one thing that Covid-19 has taught us, it’s that traditional businesses are not a safe bet. Businesses that need a physical location that customers visit are vulnerable to being shut down at a moments notice, crippling income.

Online businesses don’t have this issue. In fact, they often thrive in times of crises, and not because they’re buying up all the toilet roll! Online businesses are able to adapt to the current market without massive costs and are able to provide what customers need when they need it.

They’re also much more scaleable. There is no earning limit when it comes to running an online business.

8) A sense of fulfilment

There is more to life than mindlessly going to the office each day, doing boring work and coming home to veg on the sofa in front of the TV.

If you feel like you’re missing something from your life, or nothing you’re doing is really making you happy, it could be time for a BIG lifestyle change.

Having an online business can give you flexibility in your day, giving you more of that work-life balance. You also quickly learn that providing value to others is incredibly fulfilling!

9) You can work from anywhere

When people hear the phrase ‘work from anywhere’ they often imagine sitting on a beach, laptop on their knee and a cocktail in their hand. And Pre-Covid I guess that’s what many online entrepreneurs love to do!

I love to travel and the idea of being able to work from anywhere in the world is amazing. But right now, I’m enjoying the freedom of working at home, whether that’s in my study or out in the garden with a G&T!

10) The sense of community is awesome

You don’t have to spend all your time on social media to get your business off the ground. But it is a great place to meet like-minded people, people who can inspire you and teach you along the way.

Private communities like the one I am part of are awesome for this, everyone is learning and growing together. The level of mentorship is outstanding, and you never feel like you’re going it alone. Click here to learn more about membership.

11) You can outsource stuff

The best bit about being your own boss? You don’t have to do everything. You can delegate the jobs you don’t like or struggle with by outsourcing them on places like Fivrr for fairly cheap. You get to do all the big oversight stuff, outsource the little stuff (if you want to) and sit back and enjoy the profits.

12) Quit that 9-5 job

Don’t get stuck in a job you hate, there are ways to make money (good money) outside of the ‘traditional’ jobs. Don’t just create a side hustle to eat up your precious time. Invest in learning how to create a successful online business, learn some digital marketing skills and you’ll be killing it in no time.

In three months’ time you don’t want to be looking back asking yourself ‘what if you’d started today’. If you are serious about wanting to quit your job, do something about it. Get the skills you need, the mentorship, whatever! Just take action!

13) You can be flexible and adapt – it’s not set in stone!

Don’t worry about needing to know exactly what type of business you’ll create before you start. With an online business, you can be flexible and change the entire focus of your business if you want to.

The flexibility of online businesses also makes them pretty much recession-proof. If your smart about it and you’ve taken the time to get the skills, when a global crisis hits, you’ll be just fine. Adapt your business and you won’t need to worry about how you’re going to pay your mortgage or buy food that month.
